PEACEPLUS RESEARCH & INNOVATION PROJECTS

PEACEPLUS is a cross-border funding Programme supported by the European Union, the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Government of Ireland, and the Northern Ireland administration. Outlined below are some of the Research and Innovation projects that are supported by NWTEC partners.

  • SPEAR (Semiconductor Photonics Education and Research Centre) project €8.4m will be led by ATU in partnership with UU and Tyndall National Institute at UCC. The project aims to deliver socio-economic regeneration and transformation to the North-West region. The Centre will be developed around Seagate Technologies.
  • NWCAM2 (North West Centre for Advanced Manufacturing) project €9.9m will be led by Catalyst in partnership with ATU, UU, NWRC and other partners. The project will support SMEs to develop environmentally sustainable manufacturing processes and products – enabling them to innovate, reduce emissions and compete on a global scale.
  • HF-TIC (Health Frontiers – Technology Innovation Centre) project €9m will be led by UU in partnership with ATU & other partners. The project will establish a world-class health focused consortium focusing on next generation medical device technologies, new digital and AI technologies to support health clinic systems, and digital transformation in healthcare practice and culture.
  • PRISM (Powering Research & Innovation for Sustainable Manufacturing) project €7.6m will be led by SWC in partnership with ATU, NWRC & other partners. The project will focus on concrete production and sustainable manufacturing processes, hydrogen and rotational storage, and food innovation and manufacturing.
  • GEMINI (Geothermal Energy Momentum on the Island of Ireland) project €20m will be led by Codema in partnership with ATU, UU, & 12 other partners. The project is a multi-partner, all-island geothermal energy demonstration project.

    THE ATLANTIC FUTURES PROJECT

    Atlantic Futures is a Shared Island research project by Atlantic Technological University, Ulster University, University of Galway and University of Limerick, funded by the North South Research Programme. Atlantic Futures is a €4million four year cross-border research project funded by The North-South Research Programme. The NSRP is a collaborative scheme funded through the Government’s Shared Island Fund. It is being administered by the Higher Education Authority (HEA) on behalf of the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.
